Passage AI vs Layla: a Layla AI alternative for walking days

If you want a Layla AI alternative for the days you'll spend on foot, Passage AI is the better pick. Layla is an AI trip planner backed by human travel advisors: you chat about your dates, budget and style, and its team can book hotels, flights, transfers and activities for you. Passage AI plans the walking day itself. It puts your stops in walking order with meals in place, flags what to book ahead, and opens a story for each stop when you get there. That's the short answer to Passage AI vs Layla.

I'm Edward, and I build Passage AI. Every Layla claim below comes from layla.ai or Layla's App Store listing, both read on October 14, 2026.

Last checked: Oct 2026. Features and prices change, so check each app before you pay.

What Layla is built for

Layla's homepage sums up the product in two lines: "Plan your trip with AI. Perfect it with travel advisors." You start a trip by chatting, and Layla builds it around your dates, budget and style. Then, in the homepage's words, "a real travel advisor checks every detail and books it."

That makes Layla closer to an online travel agency than a day planner. Its FAQ says a Travel Advisor learns your travel style and budget, the team drafts a tailored plan, and once you approve it they book what's included: hotels, flights, transfers, activities. You can also book on your own without talking to an advisor. During the trip, Layla offers 24/7 support, including over WhatsApp.

The homepage also shows "Trips ready to book" with hotels and experiences included. They are long trips priced per person in euros, such as 12 days in Bali "from ~€1,312 per person" or 8 days in Iceland under the aurora. The FAQ recommends a minimum budget of €100 per person, per night.

The example prompts on the homepage point the same way: "a 7-day Paris itinerary for a birthday getaway", "Tokyo in 6 days", "London in 4 days without missing top sights". Each one is a multi-day trip. The iPhone app, released in March 2026, calls Layla "your personal AI travel agent that helps you discover, plan, and book amazing trips, just by chatting."

What Layla doesn't list for a day on foot

Once the flights and hotel are sorted, a city trip comes down to single days: where to start, what order to walk, where to eat, and what sells out. Layla's homepage, FAQ and App Store listing don't describe any of these (checked Oct 14, 2026):

  • Day plans in walking order, with meals placed at mealtimes
  • A button that reorders a day for less walking
  • A scan of the trip for stops worth booking ahead
  • Stories or audio for each stop
  • A guide that opens each stop as you arrive
  • Nearby landmarks as you walk
  • Offline access or shared trip links

"Not listed" means Layla doesn't describe it on those pages. You plan the hour-by-hour walk yourself.

Why Passage AI is the better Layla AI alternative on foot

A full day in walking order, with meals in place

Tap "Suggest a day for me" and Passage AI drafts a day of real places in the order you'd walk them. It keeps neighboring stops together, avoids doubling back, and puts breakfast, lunch and dinner at sensible times. Pick a pace: a relaxed day gets 3 to 4 activities, a packed one 7 to 9 stops counting meals.

You can also add your own stops. I built this Wednesday in Prague from eight of them. The day starts at Prague Castle at 9:00 AM, comes down through Malá Strana to St. Nicholas Church and the Lennon Wall, stops for lunch at Café Savoy, then crosses Charles Bridge to the Old Town for the Astronomical Clock and the Old New Synagogue. Dinner is at Lokál Dlouhááá at 6:00 PM. Our one-day Prague walking itinerary has the hours and ticket details for every stop.

Each stop gets a time, and the walk to the next one shows in minutes, with drive and bike times beside it. Walk times are straight-line estimates between stops; Directions opens your maps app for the street route.

Optimize shows a shorter walk before you commit

Optimize reorders a day for less walking, keeps your meals at mealtimes, and shows you the result first. On the Prague day it found 5 minutes less walking by visiting the Lennon Wall before lunch at Café Savoy. Each moved stop carries a "was 4th" or "was 3rd" badge. I tapped Apply new order, and the list above is that order. Optimize is free.

Need tickets? checks what to book ahead

Timed-entry museums and small restaurants fill up, and you don't want to learn that at the door. Tap Need tickets? and Passage AI scans every day of the trip. It flags up to 12 stops worth booking ahead, each with a short reason, a Likely or Maybe tag, and a link to the official site. On a Rome day it flagged Castel Sant'Angelo and Retrobottega as Likely, and the Pantheon, Nonna Betta, Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè and Il Goccetto as Maybe.

Tap Add and the stop goes on your list of things still to arrange. Passage AI links you to the official ticket site, where you book. Our guide to what to book ahead in Rome works through a full example.

Passage AI Need tickets? sheet titled Worth booking ahead for Tuesday, October 20 in Rome: Castel Sant'Angelo and Retrobottega tagged Likely; Nonna Betta, Pantheon, Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè and Il Goccetto tagged Maybe, each with an Official site link and an Add button
Need tickets? on a Rome day: six stops worth booking ahead, each with an official site link.

Layla's advisors book the big pieces of a trip, such as the hotel and flights. Need tickets? covers the small bookings inside each day that are easy to forget until you're in the queue.

A Guide that opens each stop as you arrive

The Guide tab turns your day into a deck of stop cards. Walk within about 40 m of a stop and its card opens on screen with Story, Interesting Facts and Experience tabs. Tap Listen to hear the story read aloud; nothing plays until you tap. Directions opens your phone's maps app.

Between planned stops, tap Live tour to see landmarks within about 300 m of where you're standing, one card at a time. Use it as a self-guided walking tour of the streets between your stops.

Pricing compared

Planning by hand in Passage AI is free: adding stops, maps, travel times, weather, Optimize and sharing. AI features are free up to a monthly limit, including 3 suggested days, 3 Need tickets? scans and 25 place stories. Two paid options lift the limits:

  • Trip Pass: $15 once on the web ($14.99 in the App Store). Unlimited AI on one trip, up to 14 AI-planned days. It doesn't renew.
  • Annual Pro: $50 a year on the web ($49.99 in the App Store), for every trip. There's no monthly plan.

Layla's website says planning is free, "with no subscription or planning fee." If you book through Layla, you pay for the travel arrangements in your booking. The iPhone app also sells Layla Premium, which its App Store listing describes as "unlimited access to the app", at $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year (US prices, Oct 14, 2026). Check the current offer in the app before you subscribe.

The bigger cost with Layla is the trip itself, since that's what its team books. For the days on foot, a $15 Trip Pass covers one whole trip in Passage AI.

Can you use Layla and Passage AI together?

Yes, and for a long trip it's a sensible split. Use Layla, or its advisors, to choose the route between cities and book the hotels, flights and transfers. Then open Passage AI, add each city, and tap "Suggest a day for me" for the days you're there. Your first full AI-planned day on the web needs no sign-up.
